Rev. Todd Johnson, M.Div | Assistant Pastor

Short Biography

Reverend Todd A. Johnson serves as Assistant Pastor of New Jerusalem Worship Center, joining the church in March 2026 following his acceptance of the call to succeed Bishop Rice as part of a multi-year transition process. A native of Warren, OH, Reverend Johnson brings more than two decades of ministry, pastoral leadership, community engagement, and organizational experience to New Jerusalem. Reverend Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Community Ministry from Geneva College and a Master of Divinity from Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary, where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies. Reverend Johnson’s pastoral ministry began in Warren, where he succeeded his father as Senior Pastor of Agape Assembly Church in 2012. In 2015, he was called to serve as Senior Pastor of the historic Second Baptist Church of Warren, overseeing a decade of congregational growth and expanded ministry and community presence, becoming known as “A House of Hope”.

Besides his passion for preaching, teaching, worship, and “Pastor Todd” is known for his ministry beyond the pulpit, having been deeply involved in youth development, education, community organizing, economic development, housing initiatives, and civic leadership through various non-profits and ministry endeavors. In 2021, he was elected to Warren City Council, where he has served three terms representing the city’s First Ward. His broader ministry engagement has included service within the Northern Ohio Baptist District Association as a Vice-Moderator and as member of the Berean Leadership Fellowship under Bishop Timothy J. Clarke.

Rather than viewing succession simply as a change in leadership, Reverend Johnson embraces this season as an opportunity to learn the history, culture, people, and ministry of New Jerusalem, Southeast Queens, and New York City while being shaped by Bishop Rice’s decades of pastoral wisdom and experience. His desire is to honor the foundation that has already been established while preparing to faithfully lead New Jerusalem into its next season of ministry. Reverend Johnson is married to Lady Shameika R. Johnson, and together they are the proud parents of three children, London, Elias, and Ethan.
